“It's absolutely fantastic to see our wonderful students in industrial engineering and management now graduating! It has been an incredibly rewarding journey with these first students in the programme.”
What do the students say about the programme and their experience of it – how have they developed over these five years?
“It takes both courage and curiosity to embark on a new programme. The dialogue between the students and the programme has been intense throughout. Together, we have created a programme that is current, relevant and a little different. In particular, it has been important to integrate sustainability and ethical issues throughout the programme.”
What kind of jobs or roles do you see the students moving on to?
“It has been gratifying to hear that our students are really sought after in the labour market. In the changing world we currently live in, there is a need for engineers with a strong understanding of the role of technology in organisations and society, cutting-edge knowledge in industrial analytics and skills to operate in complex global networks.”
How do you see the future of the programme – are there any plans to develop or change anything?
“The future looks bright, with a particularly high number of applicants. The community we have managed to create in the programme is important in providing a secure foundation for critical and independent thinking. In particular, we want to continue developing the community across the different year levels. And continue to be relevant, curious and courageous together.”
What do you hope the students will take with them from their time at Uppsala University?
“I hope everyone can look back on their time at Uppsala University with warmth, and I hope the students continue to keep in touch. But their future is out in the world, and I hope that each and every one of them finds the path that suits them best. My advice for the future is simple: be kind. That way, we can make the world a better place together.”

Facts about the five year Master's Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management
The Master's Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management at Uppsala University started in autumn 2020 and has since been the most popular engineering programme in Uppsala. The programme is worth 300 credits, which corresponds to five years of study. The programme combines management, engineering and computer science, with a specialisation in industrial analytics and sustainable business development. Studies in this programme prepare the graduate for project management roles and senior positions in engineering or business development.
In June 2025, the first cohort will graduate, comprising a total of 40 students.
