Elin Lövestam, professor at the Department of Food Studies, Nutrition and Dietetics, has been honored as Dietitian of the Year 2025. Her work to develop standardised terminology and documentation in the dietetic profession has had a major impact on detitians both nationally and internationally.
Elin Lövestam is responsible for the doctoral programme at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and is the coordinator of the national graduate school InSyNC. Thanks to a grant from the Swedish Research Council, ten doctoral students have been employed at the dietetic programmes in Gothenburg, Uppsala and Umeå, which will ensure future competence in the field.
- It will be a good addition of doctoral dietitians who will then be able to work and ensure future competence at Sweden's dietetic programmes, says Lövestam.
Her research has focused on creating a common language for dietitians, which facilitates record keeping and raises the field of nutrition to a new level. She is now leading an international study on the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and standardised terminology, involving 22 countries. Thanks in large part to Elin, Sweden is a pioneer in the field.
- Even though people look at it in different ways and different countries have come a long way in the process, there is a lot in common. This work is important for development and for emphasising the role of dietitians.
The Swedish Association of Dietitians, which appoints the Dietitian of the Year, emphasises Elin's extensive development work and her ability to highlight the achievements of colleagues and students.
- It's great to be recognised in this way. A total surprise! she says. The Dietitian of the Year award was presented at the Dietitians' Association's annual meeting on 2 April 2025.
