Project: Making Catalogue –1962 visible in Libris

Catalogue –1962 ("K62") lists the books, journals and other publications acquired by the University Library from the seventeenth century until 1962.

Increasing the visibility of items in the older catalogues

The aim is to improve and simplify access to the Library’s early printed collections by bulk-loading holdings data into Libris, the Swedish national union catalogue.

The first phase concentrates on the K62 catalogue, which covers items acquired between c. 1790 and 1962. K62 represents a very large share of the Library’s holdings and includes rare material that is frequently requested by University researchers.

Developing workflows and partnerships

A second goal is to build in-house expertise so that the same workflow can later be applied to the Library’s other printed catalogues and to make those records discoverable in Alvin (the platform for digital collections and digitised cultural heritage).

Improved digital access to K62 in Libris will also facilitate national co-operation on digitisation and preservation.

Large-scale metadata transfer

The project employs modern, well-proven tools:

  • AI-based transcription and segmentation,
  • automated metadata extraction,
  • APIs for creating records in Libris.

The project runs throughout 2024–25. Project Manager: Karin Byström, Media Division.
