Handskrivet kort ur kortkatalog

Catalogue card of letters written by King Gustav III, including a letter to Queen Marie Antoinette.

The Catalogue of Letters is an older paper catalogue of letters mainly from the period around 1500–1950 in Uppsala University Library. The more than 80,000 catalogue cards are now digitised and searchable online.

The catalogue is arranged by sender, but it also provides information on to whom, when and how many letters were written.

Via the online catalogue, the letters can be requested for study in the Special Collections Reading Room at Carolina Rediviva.

With its large number of catalogue cards – and thus letter writers – the catalogue provides an interesting insight into the naming practices of different periods. It also provides information on the contact network of the various letter writers. In other words, the letter catalogue contains information that can also be interesting for other reasons.

In addition to the Catalogue of Letters , letters are also available in the BRUNO database (not online). Letters included in individual archives can be searched in Alvin, where you can also find digital copies of a selection of letters.

Welcome to browse the Library's rich collection of letters!
