News in the Library's digital collections

As of 2024, Uppsala University Library has expanded its digital collections with several new databases, a handful of new e-journals and a new reading and publishing agreement. The University Library has also chosen to support a number of strategically important open science organisations.

The selection of new digital resources is primarily based on purchase suggestions from researchers, teachers and students. Assessments are then made by librarians in dialogue with the relevant departments, taking into account the media budget and an overall perspective.

The new digital resources are available in the Library Search Tool as well as Databases A–Z. More detailed information about the publishing agreements can be found on the Library's website.

Here is a selection of what is new:

Databases

Birds of the World: Database with detailed species descriptions of the world's different birds. Birds of the World is useful for all kinds of research and studies on birds, but also for those with a general interest in birds.

CrossAsia: Portal for Asian digital resources in social sciences, law and humanities.

PhilPapers: Bibliographic database in philosophy.

Reading and publishing agreements

Bristol University Press Read & Publish: The agreement covers unlimited reading and publishing in 20 hybrid journals from Bristol University Press and its sub-publisher Policy Press. The main subject areas are social sciences and law.

E-books

Oxford Handbooks Online: 2023 publications in the humanities and social sciences.

Memberships and support of open science organisations and publishers

Cogitatio Press: Publisher of five peer-reviewed open access journals: Media and Communication, Ocean and Society, Politics and Governance, Social Inclusion and Urban Planning.

Kriterium: Platform for reviewing, publishing and disseminating high quality scientific open access books.

Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB): Platform for academic quality-reviewed open access books.

OAPEN: Platform and infrastructure for quality reviewed open access books.

Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA): Association of open science organisations, including conferences and webinars.

Open Book Publishers: Publishers of peer-reviewed open access books in the humanities and social sciences.
