During Banned Books Week, 7–13 October 2024, attention is drawn to literature that is or has been banned somewhere in the world.
A forbidden book can be a book that someone thinks no one else should be allowed to read. This means that a book may not be published or sold, that the content is censored or that it is removed from schools and libraries. Banned Books Week Sweden is a way to keep the conversation about free speech alive and a defence for everyone's right to read.
Uppsala University Library participates during the week by presenting a selection of books on the topic on banned literature, freedom of expression and book censorship at the Dag Hammarskjöld and Law Library.
