Europeana contains more than 50 million digitised objects, including paintings, drawings, letters, diaries, historical documentaries and sound recordings.

The platform contains several thematic collections such as fashion, art, sport and photography to name but a few. You can also search for specific historical events, artists or artefacts.

Cooperation between European cultural institutions

Europeana aims to promote cultural diversity and co-operation between cultural institutions across Europe and has been launched with the support of the European Commission.

Europeana contains material from universities, libraries, archives and museums across Europe. Several thousand institutions contribute to the platform, including large institutions such as the British Library and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, as well as many smaller European cultural institutions.
