Unique student history digitised thanks to fundraising
Uppsala University Library has started work on digitising unique collections on student history. They include matrices, protocols and cash books from the 17th century onwards. Once the material has been digitised, it will be much more accessible to students, researchers and other interested parties in Uppsala and beyond – now and in the future.
Fundraising
The background to the digitisation of student material is a fundraising that began when Lars Burman left his position as Head Librarian at the University Library in the summer of 2024. Instead of gifts, he asked for contributions to the Library's digitisation work. Lars has a long-standing commitment to matters relating to students and student life in Uppsala, both historically and in the present.
Digitised records
The fundraising has made it possible to start the work in the autumn of 2024. The student records are available via the Alvin platform and work will continue in the future to digitise more of the student history material.

In the exhibition hall at Carolina Rediviva, a table-top display of materials on the topic of student democracy is on show until 31 January 2025.
