Linnaeus Grants to strong Uppsala teams

SEK 184 million over ten years in Linnaeus Grants. This is what Uppsala University received when the Swedish Research Council and the Swedish Research Council Formas revealed that 20 of 105 applications had been granted funding. Three of these go to Uppsala University, and one is a joint venture involving the Karolinska Institute and Uppsala.
The Linnaeus Grants are a major support for research teams at universities. The 2008 Linnaeus Grants amount to SEK 140 million per year for ten years -a total of SEK 1.4 billion. The 20 teams receiving funding will get five to ten million per year. The research environments represent all research domains -medicine, science and technology, and arts and social sciences.
“Our international experts have not found it difficult to find strong teams even though this is the second round of Linnaeus Grants. I see this as proof that Sweden is a strong research nation,” says Pär Ömling, director general of the Swedish Research Council. The competition has been stiff, and the teams chosen are truly of the highest academic quality.”
Applications were submitted last year and have been discussed and evaluated since then by an international panel of experts. At Uppsala University, the following applications were granted funding:
