Fees for students from outside Europe established

Bildtext
The fees to apply, beginning with the autumn term of 2011, for students from countries outside Europe were established in the course of last week’s Vice-Chancellor’s meeting. The fees, which are meant to cover all costs, will vary somewhat depending on the programme and level of study.
As mandated by a decision of the Swedish Parliament, students who are third country nationals (who come from outside the EEA and Switzerland) will have to pay fees in connection with study at Swedish institutions of higher education as of the autumn term of 2011. Each institution of higher education has been responsible for determining the relevant fee amounts, which are meant to cover all costs, including those associated with administration, reception, services and marketing.
The fees for study at Uppsala University will range from SEK 80,000 to SEK 180,000 per student per academic year, reflecting the actual costs, including surcharges, associated with the various programmes. Some averaging has been carried out to limit the number of fee levels. Two different fees will apply within the humanities and social sciences at each of the first and second cycle study levels, since some of the programmes, such as those in food, nutrition and dietetics, archaeology, psychology (medical orientation) and the computer and systems sciences, are associated with significantly higher costs than others.
Medicine, pharmacy, engineering and the natural sciences:
First cycle: SEK 120,000 per academic year
Second cycle: SEK 135,000 per academic year
Medical doctor training programme: SEK 180,000 per academic year
Humanities and social sciences:
First cycle: SEK 80,000 or SEK 100,000 per academic year, depending on the programme
Second cycle: SEK 90,000 or SEK 110,000 per academic year, depending on the programme
Educational sciences:
First cycle: SEK 80,000 per academic year
Second cycle: SEK 90,000 per academic year
Application fees are to be handled by the Swedish Agency for Higher Education Services (VHS) at the time of admission. Term fees are to be handled by the institution of higher education in question.
