4th Uppsala-Hallym Symposium a success
Hello there… Kjell Öberg, professor of oncological endocrinology, who was in charge of The 4th Uppsala-Hallym International Symposium – Biomarkers: From Bench to Clinic.
How was The 4th Uppsala-Hallym International Symposium?
Excellent, not least because of a successful program that came at just the right time. What’s more, the presentations were all superb, not least those of our South Korean guests, who truly lived up to our expectations.
What did the South Korean delegation think of their Uppsala visit?
They were very pleased. I believe everyone agrees that this fourth symposium was the most successful one so far. Largely because the form of the meeting is beginning to find a functioning structure.
Can you further develop the form ahead of 2013, when the symposium returns to Uppsala?
We must get better at marketing the meeting. In South Korea several hundred spectators come; here it was about fifty at the most. I won’t be involved in 2013, but I know that the Vice Chancellor holds this collaboration with Hallym in very high regard, and the symposium has priority status.
What are you personally taking away from this day?
Above all some of the talks; Ulf Landegren’s presentation of a new technology for developing biomarkers, Eun-Kyoung Choi’s presentation of new ways to discover biomarkers in prion diseases, and Per-Henrik Edqvis’ts lecture on the Protein Atlas project, which has taken impressive strides forward.
What’s next in our collaboration with Hallym?
The great news is that the South Korean government has awarded Uppsala University’s Lars Lannfeldt and Hallym’s Vice Rector Kim a joint grant of USD 2.5 million. Hopefully this will open the door for similar collaborations.
