Major disruptions of University’s IT environment
During the night between Thursday and Friday, May 25, Uppsala University’s IT environment broke down. The University’s website, e-mail, and access to systems for finances, personnel, and study administration were all affected.
On Friday and over the weekend internal and external experts worked day and night to address the problem. By Sunday most services were back in operation and the disturbances had been resolved. Nevertheless, the operational environment has still not been completely restored, which may entail slower speeds but also an elevated risk of further disturbances.
During Friday’s and Saturday’s comprehensive problems, continuous information was sent to students, employees, and external parties via a temporary website, Twitter, Facebook, and text messages.
University management has initiated an analysis of the event, its impact, and its management.
