Uppsala scientist receives funding for solar cell research
The scientific cooperation network KORANET has granted €50,000 in funding to Uppsala University professor Rajeev Ahuja at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The money will be used to develop solar cell prototypes together with scientists in Korea and Germany.
The solar cell design will be developed in Uppsala using quantum mechanics. The new prototype will later be produced in Korea.
‘It is very positive that we get to collaborate with the Koreans since they are very good in the applied science of solar cell models’, says Rajeev Ahuja.
The project ‘Designing of ZnO based Nanomaterials for Solar Cell Application’ is a two-year research project with Swedish project leaders who have been granted funding by KORANET this year. The Swedish part of the project is financed by the Swedish Research Council.
KORANET is a European Research Area (ERA) network that supports cooperation between countries in the ERA and South Korea. The scientific theme is ‘Green technologies’ with three subordinate themes: ‘Reduction of carbon footprint’, ‘Technologies for a sustainable development’, and ‘Renewable energies and energy efficiency’. Subsidies can be applied for by scientist groups with participants in Korea and at least two European countries connected to KORANET.
