Uppsala University now world’s seventh Rotary Peace Center

At a grand opening ceremony today, 18 September, Uppsala University officially became one of seven Rotary Peace Centres.

Speaking at the opening ceremony were John Osterlund, General Manager of Rotary International, and Magnus Öberg, Head of Department at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research.

Also attending the ceremony were representatives of local and regional Rotary Foundations, University Management, students and employees of the department.

Uppsala University has been selected to become a Rotary Peace Centre in stiff international competition.

‘It is a great success to have been chosen as the seventh international centre among over 100 universities in the world. This means that Uppsala University is considered to have an education of world class in the field of peace and conflict’, says Head of Department Magnus Öberg.

The status of Rotary Peace Center means that students are able to compete for favourable Rotary scholarships for a two year master programme in peace and conflict studies. Eleven students have already been admitted to the programme and have started their studies this autumn.
