Helsinki professor new honorary doctor

Outi Suviranta, a professor at the Faculty of Law, Helsinki University, has been selected to receive an honorary doctorate from the Uppsala University Faculty of Law for her prominent work in Swedish, Nordic, and European administrative law.


Outi Suviranta has been a professor of administrative law at Helsinki University since August 2008.  In September this year she was appointed to serve as a justice on the Supreme Administrative Court of Finland, and will assume her position on 1 November 2012. She has been a researcher at the Academy of Finland and has also served as a legislative consultant.

In her research, Suviranta has demonstrated her great familiarity with both Nordic and European administrative law, not least with the German tradition. Her research is characterized by theoretical awareness of administrative law, comprehending both organizational conditions and the rights of the individual. Furthermore, she has extensively addressed the principles of administrative law and the impact of EU legislation in the field of administration. She is active in Nordic collaboration of importance to administrative law, both in the Nordic Administrative Federation and the Nordic Seminar for Administrative Law.
