Uppsala University establishes ICCR Chair in Indian Studies
Uppsala University and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations have signed an agreement for a Chair in Indian Studies. The chair is intended for four professors from India who will be visiting Uppsala University for six months each over the coming four years.
The chair will reside under the Forum for South Asia Studies and move between the different faculties connected with it.
The memorandum of understanding was signed 22 January by Vice-Chancellor Eva Åkesson and the Ambassador of India, Mrs Banashri Bose Harrison at the University Main Building in Uppsala. The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Anders Malmberg and Vice-Rector for the Domain of Humanities and Social Sciences Margareta Fahlgren. The Forum for South Asia Studies was represented by Vice-Chair Ranjula Bali Swain, board member Heinz Werner Wessler (Institute for Linguistics and Philology) and the Forum's coordinator Ferdinando Sardella.
