Göran Sandberg appointed as chairman of SciLifeLab
As part of the Swedish government’s large investment in SciLifeLab in the research and innovation bill 2012, SciLifeLab will be made a national research institute. The government has now appointed Göran Sandberg as chairman of SciLifeLab.
The government decided 28 February on a prescript regulating how the management and activities at SciLifeLab are to be organised. The prescript also states that the government is to appoint the chairman of the board and one board member to represent the industry.
Göran Sandberg is Professor of Plant Physiology and has previously been Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University. Today he is executive board member of the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation.
The government has also appointed Margareta Olsson Birgersson as board member. She works as Medical Director at the pharmaceutical company Roche in Sweden.
Göran Sandberg and Margareta Olsson Birgersson have been appointed to the board from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2016. The remaining board members are chosen by the Royal Institute of Technology together with Uppsala University, Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet.
