Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor for internationalisation appointed

Leif Kirsebom, currently Director of Uppsala Biomedical Centre, is looking forward to working with internationalisation.

Leif Kirsebom, Professor of Microbiology and Director of Uppsala Biomedical Centre, has been appointed new adviser to the Vice-Chancellor for internationalisation issues. The new function aims to strengthen internationalisation work within research and education across Uppsala University.


“It is an exciting, important and inspiring task to work with these issues university-wide”, says Leif Kirsebom, who has a lot of experience of international collaborations in both research and education.

Central to the role as adviser for international issues is to strengthen and develop the internationalisation work spanning the entire university. It includes both coordinating successful internationalisation initiatives in research and education within the university, and advancing positions worldwide. The adviser will represent the Vice-Chancellor in different situations and is chairman of a group which includes members from all disciplinary domains as well as student representatives.

“Internationalisation is an important means for us to continue developing as one of the world-leading universities. Leif Kirsebom has, with his broad international experience and large networks, the very best qualifications for leading this work”, says Vice-Chancellor Eva Åkesson.

Leif Kirsebom is professor at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology and Uppsala RNA Research Centre as well as Director of Uppsala Biomedical Centre, BMC, at Uppsala University. He conducts research within antibiotics resistance, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases. Within the framework of his research he has a number of international collaborations with scientists in India, Brazil and the US, among others. He also has international experience within the educational field and has held courses in chemical biology and molecular epidemiology in China, Brazil and El Salvador.
