Uppsala University founds new alumni chapter in London
On March 3–6 2013, the Management Council of Uppsala University made a study visit to the Universities of Edinburgh, Oxford and Cambridge. In conjunction with a reception on March 5th at the Swedish Ambassador´s Residence in London, Vice-Chancellor Eva Åkesson also had the opportunity to officially launch the Uppsala University Alumni Chapter for the British Isles.
The reception was a great success, with about 120 guests in attendance, of whom about half were registered alumni of the University and the other half consisting of Honorary Doctors, exchange students and special friends of the University.
Aside from the reception and welcoming words by Ambassador Nicola Clase and an introductory speech by Vice-Chancellor Åkesson, a keynote lecture was given by Vice-Rector Professor Ulf Danielsson entitled “The Dark Side of the Universe”. A meeting was also arranged for guests with a special interest in the University´s cancer research programs and the Oncolytic Virus Fund in particular, now officially supported by the Anglo-Swedish Society.
