Uppsala University strengthens its American alumni network
In connection with the annual North American conference on Scandinavian Studies, Uppsala University invited alumni in the Bay Area to information and networking meeting at the Hilton Hotel in San Francisco on May 4.
Nearly 50 both older and quite recent students from Uppsala University heeded the invitation - the eldest spent a year in Uppsala in 1963 and the youngest just came back to the US from her exchange year of the University of California at Berkeley program.
Vice-rector Margaretha Fahlgren welcomed everyone and gave a presentation of the University's goals and strategies, and Fredrik Wetterqvist, project manager at the communications office informed how the university works with external relations and the important role alumni can play in this context.
Dr. Dag Blanck, historian and university lecturer at the Swedish Institute for North American Studies, made a light-hearted and much appreciated description of the American image in Sweden and Sweden's image in the U.S. Enthusiasm was great around the tables to form an Uppsala Network on the U.S. West Coast, and the ideas were many of what the alumni could contribute and work with.
