Theologians name new honorary doctors

Professor Dietz Lange, Germany, and Professor William Schweiker, USA, have been selected to receive honorary doctorates from the Faculty of Theology at Uppsala University.
Dietz Lange, professor of systematic theology and formerly deputy vice-chancellor of Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen, Germany, is one of the leading scholars of the life and work of the Swedish archbishop and Nobel laureate Nathan Söderblom. In a number of books he has made Söderblom’s letters and writings available to international readers. In a comprehensive and essential biography, which is slated for release in Swedish in 2014, Lange provides a rich and illuminating picture of Söderblom as a scholar and church leader.
William Schweiker, professor of theological ethics at the University of Chicago, is one of North America’s leading ethicists. His research focuses on globalisation as an ethical problem, hermeneutic philosophy, the history of ethics, and comparative religious ethics. Schweiker has made a name for himself with his insightful studies of the epistemology of morality, especially his reinterpretation of the conscience in the light of post-modern criticism. In normative and applied ethics, especially his concept of the integrity of life is much discussed.
The conferment will take place in January 2014.
