The 10 November Uppsala University organized an alumni event in Seoul, South Korea.

Almost 20 alumni showed up at the Uppsala University alumni reception in Seoul, Sunday evening. The enthusiasm was evident and some of the alumni had travelled specially from other parts of the country to take part of the event. The guests included all from professor of Scandinavian languages Kwang-Soo Pyun who came to Uppsala for the first time in 1968, to master’s student of public health Min-Hyun Maeng, who returned from Uppsala this summer. At the reception was also So-Young Park who has studied the master’s programme Roads to Democracy at the Department of History, and who is now a published author. She has, for example, written a book about her experiences of Uppsala and Sweden which she handed over to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the reception.

“Uppsala seems to have made a strong and positive impressions on those who have studied, or taken a doctorate or a post-doc at our university. The alumni group as a whole is an amazing resource for Uppsala University – as ambassadors and as a means for contacts with the surrounding world”, says Uppsala University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Anders Malmberg.

“It is also interesting that the interest for Sweden is so significant in South Korea. At the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies alone, 30 students are admitted each year to a several-year course in Swedish”, says Anders Malmberg.
