SEK 92 million for research in medicine and health
The Swedish Research Council has now reached its decisions regarding grants for research projects in medicine and health in this year’s major call. Of a total of 1 531 submitted applications, 235 projects have been awarded SEK 966 million in grants. Uppsala University garnered more than SEK 92 million for 24 projects.
This year’s major call in medicine and health comprised the following:
- Project Grants (UU 19 grants)
- Project Grants for Young Researchers (UU 2 grants)
- Project Grants – Knowledge Gaps in Health and Medical Care (UU 2 grants)
- Project Grants – Alternative Methods to Animal Testing Using the 3R Principle
- Grants for Employment of Half-time Researchers in Clinical Settings (UU 1 grant)

- Georgy Bakalkin: New Neurodegenerative Mechanisms in the Human Brain Revealed by Mutations in a Neuropeptide Gene, SEK 9 650 000
- Karin Nordin: Physical Exercise and Cancer (Phys-Can) – Effects and Understanding of Mechanisms for Reducing Cancer-related Fatigue. – A Randomised Multicentre Study, SEK 9 650 000
- Linda Holmfeldt (Young Researcher): Functional and Genomic Studies of Difficult-to-Treat Acute Leukaemia, SEK 6 500 000
- Marika Nestor (Young Researcher): Improved Cancer Treatment through Combined Target-seeking Radionuclide Therapy with p53-terapi, SEK 5 450 000
Uppsala University was awarded one grant to employ a half-time researcher in a clinical setting:
- Helena Åkerud: Predicting and Enhancing the Chances of Pregnancy in IVF Treatment, SEK 2 550 000 (Helena Åkerud was also awarded a project grant of close to SEK 3 million for the same study.)
