12.5 million donated to Uppsala University Library
"Greta Renborg´s fund" will be used for information and education about personal archives at the section for Manuscripts and Music after a donation from Greta and Ulf Renborg of 12 .5 million SEK to the Uppsala University Library.
Greta Renborg was a librarian and an active participant in the public debate and Ulf Renborg was a professor at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU. The couple's assets will be divided between Uppsala University Library and the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, KSLA, according to their will.
– It is a great honour, says Maria Berggren, section director of Manuscripts and Music and Per Cullhed, head of the Cultural Heritage Division. This is a very generous gift that strengthens us in our work with personal archives, a material of high interest both to the public and scholars.
– The donation is extremely important, adds chief librarian Lars Burman. Ever since the beginning of the 17th century, the library has received great gifts which have laid the foundation for research and knowledge of society and history.
Greta Renborg’s fund will be important for the awareness and use of personal archives across Sweden. A new position as “Greta Renborg librarian” will be created at Uppsala University Library.
