The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research recently decided to grant eight projects SEK 30–33 million each in funding over a five year period for research on medical technology. Jöns Hilborn, professor of polymer chemistry at Ångström Laboratory, is one of those granted funding.
Jöns Hilborn conducts research in polymer chemistry, and is receiving a grant for the project “Strategies for survival of stem cells”.
The grants from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research fund studies, diagnostics and treatment methods for different diseases. In total, 83 applications were made to the foundation, resulting in just under ten per cent of the applications being granted funding.
Other projects receiving funding deal with imaging diagnostics, diagnostics in cardiovascular diseases and prostate cancer, portable sensory systems, Parkinsons and stroke rehabilitation, cell-based therapy for chronic lung diseases and transplant rejections.
