Twenty-six per cent increase in admitted international Master’s students

The second round of selections for Uppsala University’s international Master’s programmes has just been announced. The number of admitted students has been increased by 26 per cent since last year.
For the autumn 2013, 730 students were admitted to the international Master’s programmes at Uppsala University. This year 923 students have been admitted.
418 of the admitted students are non-EU students who pay tuition fees in Sweden. This equals an increase of 41 per cent compared to last autumn when 297 students were admitted.
Over the last year, Uppsala University has made special efforts to attract and recruit students to the international Master’s programmes. Among other things, digital marketing and Google ads have been used, as well as targeted efforts to provide interested students with personal help and support. Uppsala University’s new website with a responsive design that adapts to fit tablets and smart phones has also increased the accessibility of information for the target audience.
‘It is positive and pleasing to see that our strategic work has paid off’, says Vice-Chancellor Eva Åkesson. ‘We live in an increasingly globalised world and international students help create a rich study environment. This means all Uppsala students, and teachers, get to work in an international environment, which in itself is a quality factor.’
The Master’s programmes in international health, sustainable development and embedded systems have the highest numbers of admitted students. Among non-EU students the Master’s programme in computer science is the most popular.
