Uppsala professors awarded medals by HM King Carl XVI Gustaf
Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf has decided to award HM The King’s Medal to three professors at Uppsala University, at a ceremony at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, 11 June.
HM The King’s Medal was founded in 1814 and exists in different sizes. It is awarded to Swedish and foreign citizens for special merit and to officials of the Royal Court for long and faithful service.
Aleksandr Kan, professor emeritus of history at the Department of History, will receive HM the King’s medal of the twelfth size with a royal blue ribon.
Two Uppsala professors will receive HM The King’s Medal of the eighth size, with the Order of the Seraphim’s ribbon:
- Professor Peter Wallensteen for his outstanding work in peace and conflict research.
- Professor Bengt Westermark for his valuable contributions to cancer research.
The medals will be awarded 11 June at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
