Successful alumni event in Moscow
In connection with the Uppsala based choir Allmänna sången performing in Moscow, Uppsala University invited alumni and friends to the concert and an alumni reception. An amazing group of 98 attendees signed up for the event.
Allmänna sången did three concerts in Moscow and the Monday’s concert in the grand hall of the Moscow Conservatory was the grand finale of the tour. After the concert the Uppsala University alumni walked to Restaurant Scandinavia where Swedish food and beautiful songs were offered. At the reception UU alumnus Björn Fagerberg, Minister-Counsellor, Deputy Head of Mission at the Swedish Embassy spoke about how the embassy works with promotion of Sweden in Russia and how important alumni with experiences from Sweden are in this work.
“I am overwhelmed, seeing the large attendance and commitment that our alumni here in Moscow have shown, says Professor Leif Kirsebom, adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on international affairs at Uppsala University.
“The Moscow alumni group is a good mix of younger and older alumni, Russian alumni that have studied in Uppsala and Swedish alumni that now live in Russia. This is a sign of Uppsala University being a university with a strong international imprint and our work with internationalization is something we are committed to continue to work with. Our alumni are essential in this work, both as local ambassadors and as contacts for the university”, says Leif Kirsebom.
Thomas Fredengren, fundraiser at Uppsala University, talked about the alumni network at Uppsala University and he also talked about the campaign that has been launched to create more scholarships for international students. Since 2011, non-EU students have to pay tuition fees for studies at Uppsala University. Alumni, companies and organizations are invited to support this effort through gifts and donations to the University: www.uu.se/en/support/
Apart from the event for Alumni in Moscow, Professor Leif Kirsebom also visited the Russian State University for the Humanities, RGGU and the Russian-Swedish Centre that resides at the university, where the Centre Director Dr. Tamara Torstendahl Salytjeva greeted the visitors from Uppsala. During the visit the group met with first-year Swedish language students and after the visit to the center, a meeting was arranged with the Vice-Rector for International Innovative projects Professor Vera Zabotkina to discuss the cooperation between RGGU and Uppsala University.
