Lars Wallentin, senior professor of cardiology at Uppsala University, became the second Swede ever to give the prestigious Paul Dudley White lecture at this year’s Scientific Sessions in Chicago.

The large American heart conference, which has more than 17,000 participants, came to an end a few days ago. Lars Wallentin, who does his everyday work at Uppsala Clinical Research Centre (UCR), gave the Paul Dudle White lecture on the topic of integrating research with the clinical reality. His starting-point was Sweden’s large heart failure registry and the method of conducting randomised studies based on that data – a method which makes large, important studies possible at relatively low costs.

To be selected to give the Paul Dudle White lecture is equivalent to being awarded a prize, and is only bestowed upon those who the American Heart Association considers to have been of great importance to the field of heart medicine.
