Uppsala University part of large EU initiatives on health and materials

Uppsala University has been selected by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology as a partner for two large, new initiatives – so called Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) – in the fields of health and raw materials. Uppsala University is part of both winning applications.
‘A truly great achievement’, say professors Mats Larhed and Roland Roberts, who have coordinated Uppsala University’s part of the work.
Since three years there have been European KICs in the fields of climate, sustainable energy and ICT. Uppsala University is together with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) a partner of the energy KIC, InnoEnergy. Late yesterday evening the European Insitute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) decided on two new consortia to focus on innovations in the fields of health and materials respectively, both including Uppsala University as a partner.
In the field of health, the EIT chose the consortium EIT Health, as a new KIC for ‘healthy living – active ageing’. The consortium includes 52 partners from industry, research and academia across Europe.
In the field of raw materials, the EIT selected the consortium RawMatTERS with over 100 leading partners in industry, research and academia across 22 EU countries.
