Partnership to implement Education for Sustainable Development in Southern Africa

SWEDESD together with partners and key stakeholders from four countries in Southern Africa will hold an international workshop to explore how national strategies for high quality teaching and learning can be reoriented to support sustainable development.
The initiative is a response to the UNESCO
Global Action Programme (GAP)on Education for Sustainable Development launched at the 2014 UNESCO World Conference on ESD in Japan. The programme encourages all relevant stakeholders to develop strategies and activities under five priority action areas at international, regional, national and local levels.
The aim of the workshop that will take place in Harare, Zimbabwe 1-5 June 2015, is to initiate a collaborative process with national teams composed of stakeholder participants currently at management levels in Botswana, Mauritius, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The workshop participants will analyse the GAP as a global statement and discuss, reflect and articulate action implications for each sector of the educational system with the ambition to develop new national strategies for education and learning.
The meeting is organised and facilitated in collaboration with United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Environmental Education Programme (REEP) and SWEDESD at Uppsala University.
