Tsun-Kang “Trent” Chiang, a student in the Master Programme in Economics at Uppsala University, was given the honour “Global Swede” by the Minister for Enterprise Mikael Damberg and the Director-General of the Swedish Institute Annika Rembe on 12 May. The award recognises international students in Sweden who have excelled in innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Global Swede award is part of the government and the Swedish Institute’s longstanding vision to nurture and strengthen relationships with international students in Sweden. The goal is to encourage international students to become ambassadors for Sweden and promote a positive image of Swedish higher education. They will also act as an important future resource for Swedish companies around the world.

22 students from various higher education institutions in Sweden received the Global Swede award, which is bestowed upon those who distinguish themselves in areas closely related to innovation and entrepreneurship

“Global Swede is a way of promoting Swedish export. Acknowledging the top international students creates valuable contacts and connections that will benefit Swedish foreign trade long-term” stated Mikael Damberg.

Uppsala University student Tsun-Kang ”Trent” Chiang is one of the select few who have been recognised.  He is an economics student, but also has an interest in health and pharmaceutical matters. The award was given to Tsun-Kang ”Trent” based on the following:

”Tsun-Kang ”Trent” Chiang is an excellent economics student passionate about the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. By his involvement in advocating greater access to affordable medicines in low-and-middle-income countries through Universities Allied for Essential Medicines, including the start-up of a chapter at Uppsala University (and Karolinska Institutet), he has demonstrated ambitions that concur with the university’s articulated goal to contribute to a better world. With a permanent US residence permit and a highly valued experience from Sweden, Tsun-Kang ”Trent” is not only Taiwanese but also a global citizen. He is a great ambassador for Uppsala University and Sweden.”
