Uppsala-taken picture of giant virus named one of the best science images in the world
The scientific journal Nature has chosen the ten best scientific images of 2015. Uppsala-based researcher Tomas Ekeberg, at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, created one of the top 10 images: a 3D image of a giant virus created using x-ray laser.
For the first time ever, a 3D image revealing parts of the inner structure of a virus was created in early 2015. The study was conducted by the Uppsala researcher Tomas Ekeberg, at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, using an x-ray laser.
‘Ever since I started doing x-ray laser research, this has been my dream—to create a 3D image of a biological sample. It is amazing, and represents a breakthrough for the research field’, Tomas Ekeberg says.
The image of the giant virus has now been chosen by the scientific journal Nature as one of the best science images in the world. Read more about the top 10 images in Nature.
