Stefan Swartling Peterson appointed Chief of Health at UNICEF in New York
Stefan Swartling Peterson, Professor of Global Health at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, has been appointed the Chief of Health at UNICEF in New York starting from the middle of February, which means he will be on a leave of absence from Uppsala University for two years.
Stefan Swartling Peterson’s research focuses on how people in low-income countries seek medical assistance and what the healthcare available to them is like. His research aims to bridge the gap between the available knowledge and the healthcare that a sick child actually gets.
He graduated with a medical degree from Uppsala University in 1990 and became Master of Public Health at Harvard, USA, the following year. In 2000, he defended his thesis in Uppsala. He became a professor at Karolinska Institutet in 2009 and Professor of Global Health at Uppsala University in 2012.
Stefan Swartling Peterson was named Alumnus of the Year at Uppsala University in 2012.
