This year’s Spring Conferment Ceremony to be held in the Cathedral
Uppsala University’s grand conferment ceremony will take place on 27 May, and partly in a new form. Because of the extensive renovations of the University Main Building, this year’s 154 new PhDs and 26 jubilee doctors will be conferred in Uppsala Cathedral.
In the ceremonial act of conferment the new PhDs receive honorary symbols; a doctoral hat or a laurel wreath as well as a diploma. As PhDs they are also entitled to a third symbol, the ring. Those who received their PhD degrees fifty years ago are invited to the ceremony as jubilee doctors.
In the evening there will be dinner and dancing at Uppsala Castle. Almost 700 people usually take part in the conferment ceremony dinner – the new PhDs and jubilee doctors with their families, specially invited honorary guests as well as teachers and other employees.
