Open seminar at Campus Gotland on Urban Sustainability

'Sustainability Talks' is a series of transdisciplinary seminars at Uppsala University - Campus Gotland. On the 16th of November 2016, Thomas Elmqvist, professor in Natural Resource Management at Stockholm Resilience Centre, will provide insights on the new UN-agenda on urban sustainability.
In a few decades 4 of every 5 people might be living in towns and cities, which makes urbanization one of the most urgent sustainability challenges of our time. The New Urban Agenda (NUA) was adopted during "Habitat III" - the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development in Quito, Ecuador on the 17th to 20th of October 2016. It will set global standards of achievement in sustainable urban development over the coming 20 years and contribute to the implementation of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's).
Thomas Elmqvist attended the conference in Quito and willl share his experince from the meeting. Thomas is a professor at Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University, and is internationally recognized for his work on sustainability and urbanization. He is coordinating an interdisciplinary research project on management of ecosystem services in urban landscapes, involving 12 cities around the world and he held visiting professorships in Japan, South Africa and USA.
