The Faculty of Law is presenting the 'von Matern premium' award to Mikael Pauli for his important work in writing and updating key procedural law texts to be used in academic legal studies.

Mikael Pauli is a legal expert at the Swedish Government Offices. His legal authorship primarily comprises study material for both universities and upper-secondary schools. Pauli was among those who accepted the challenging task of updating and revising Uppsala professor Per Olof Ekelöf's influential procedural law textbook series Rättegång (Judicial Process) so that it can still be used as study material in the Law Programme at Uppsala University and elsewhere.

Mikael Pauli is being awarded the von Matern prize for this important work. He will be honoured at a seminar at the Faculty of Law early next year.

The Faculty of Law at Uppsala University awards the von Matern premium annually to promote legal authorship in Sweden. The premium was established in 1930 in the will and testament of Tyra von Matern (1870-1937) in memory of her husband, district court judge Knut von Matern (1864-1927). According to her will, the premium may not be awarded to holders of ordinary university positions or to associate professors.

In recent years, the von Matern premium has been awarded to Lars Samuelson (2014), Elisabeth Fura (2013) and Mikael Mellqvist (2012). The premium was not awarded in 2015.
