Uppsala University big data research secures SEK 59 million

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) will provide a total of SEK 200 million to seven different research projects on handling extremely large data sets, often called big data. Two of the projects are connected with Uppsala University.
The digitalisation of society creates more data than we can handle. It can be difficult to find useful information in the large data sets. Big data is used in more and more fields, which may have a large effect on the business sector, and health and medical care.
Two of the grants from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research go to Uppsala University:
- Sven Nelander at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, has received SEK 30 million for the project “Tailor-made treatments of the future: data in a global context”.
- Carolina Wählby at the Department of Information Technology has received SEK 29 million for the project “Hierarchical analysis of image data in time and space”.
