Eva Åkesson appointed member of Tartu University Council

The government of Estonia has appointed Uppsala University Vice-Chancellor Eva Åkesson as new member of Tartu University Council. Professor Åkesson is one of seven new members of the council.
The new council has a term of five years and consists of a total of eleven members.
Tartu University was founded in 1632 by Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus and Johan Skytte who was Governor-General for what was then Livonia. The university, which was Sweden’s second university at the time, has strong historic ties to Uppsala University. It was organised in the same was as Uppsala University, with faculties for philosophy, medicine, theology and law.
