Trita Parsi visits Uppsala for Alumnus of the Year lecture
Trita Parsi, 2016 Uppsala University Alumnus of the Year, will visit Uppsala University on 14 March to receive his award and give a lecture titled “The US and Iran in the Trump Era – Back to the War Path?”.
The lecture is now available online.
The US and Iran have a long and ambivalent relationship. Their governments have treated each other as enemies for decades, but the historic nuclear agreement of 2015 carried the promise of ending their enmity. The agreement significantly limited Tehran’s nuclear program in return for the lifting of international oil and financial sanctions, while also expanding the dialogue between the two nations.
But with President Trump threatening to tear up the nuclear deal, will the US and Iran return towards a path to war?
Trita Parsi, a world leading expert on US–Iranian relations and an advisor to the Obama administration during the nuclear negotiations, is coming to Uppsala to give a talk about the current tensions between the US and Iran, and to receive the 2016 Alumnus of the Year Award at Uppsala University.
Parsi is the founder and president of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), an expert on US-Iranian relations, Iranian foreign politics, and the geopolitics of the Middle East. He started his academic studies with a Master’s degree in International relations at Uppsala University. This was followed by another Master’s degree in economics at Stockholm School of Economics. He received his PhD in international relations at the John Hopkins University in the US.
