In connection with a State Visit to Sweden, Uppsala University was visited by Iceland’s president Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson and wife Eliza Jean Reid and the Swedish royal couple.

The day began with a visit to the Ångström Laboratory with research presentations in sustainable energy and natural disasters. The delegation was later received by Vice-Chancellor Eva Åkesson in the University Main Building and researchers gave an introduction to the links that exist between Uppsala’s and Iceland’s Viking Age cultural heritage. The visit concluded at the University Library with a viewing of its Icelandic manuscripts, including Codex Upsaliensis, a special hand-written copy of the Edda (a collection of two Medieval Icelandic literary works).
