Uppsala advances in moot competition
The annual European Law Moot Court Competition, with participants from leading universities all over Europe, has recently selected 48 teams out of a 100 that have qualified for the competition’s regional finals. The Uppsala team is one of the qualified teams.
This year's team consists of four students: Lukas Salden (Universiteit Antwerpen), Ebba Thoms (Uppsala universitet), Andreas Nilsson (Uppsala universitet) and Robin Fazel (Uppsala universitet).
In competition with about one hundred other teams the participants in the Uppsala team have, on basis of initial written pleadings, advanced to the regional final in Thessaloniki, taking place on 22-25 February. There the team will compete in order to proceed to a concluding final, which will be held before the European Court in Luxembourg.
Approximately one hundred teams participate in European Law Moot Court Competition (ELMC) every year. In the competition the contestants get to analyze an imaginary scenario and present arguments for the viewpoints of the parties involved in written pleadings. The 48 best teams in this preliminary written part are then called to one of four regional finals, held during January to March, where they get to present their arguments orally in a competition trial. The winners of the regional finals meet in a concluding final in Luxembourg.
Participation in ELMC is included as part of the advanced course EU Commercial Law and Litigation (30 ECTS), held in the autumn term.
