‘Valborg’ goes abroad
It’s not only in Uppsala that ‘Valborg’, the biggest celebration of the year for Uppsala’s students, is celebrated. Uppsala University US Alumni Chapter took the celebration with them abroad a few years ago and now the tradition has spread to other alumni associations around the world.
The Valborg gasque in Battery Park, New York, has already become a popular tradition. Everyone is welcome, both Uppsala University alumni and others who want to celebrate the arrival of spring the Uppsala way with singing and dining.
In Minnesota, the alumni will get together for a picnic around a Valborg bonfire and in San Francisco, Linn Areskoug, senior lecturer at the Department of Education, will give a talk about her collaboration project with the University of California, Berkeley, “The Bay Area Writing Project”, for alumni and friends.
Uppsala University’s alumni chapter in Switzerland are organising both a champagne race and Valborg gasque in Zürich for the first time. In Hong Kong and Hanoi too, the university’s alumni chapters are planning Valborg celebrations.
