Göran Widmalm receives the Ulla and Stig Holmquist Prize

Göran Widmalm, Professor of Organic Chemistry at Stockholm University, has been awarded the 2018 Ulla and Stig Holmquist Science Prize in Organic Chemistry.


The Ulla and Stig Holmquist Science Prize in Organic Chemistry is awarded annually to a researcher in the field of organic chemistry whose main work has been done in Sweden and who has done pioneering work in that discipline. The prize money is about SEK 2 million.

Explanatory statement:

Göran Widmalm, Professor of Organic Chemistry, was awarded the prize for his significant contributions in the area of carbohydrates. He has conducted research on nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis of complex carbohydrates and has developed new methods of synthesis for the production of oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates.

The prize will be presented at the winter conferment ceremony at Uppsala University on 25 January 2019.
