Rebecca Thorburn Stern, Associate Professor in Public International Law at Uppsala’s Faculty of Law, is to receive funding from the Ragnar Söderberg Foundation, jointly with Pernilla Leviner, Associate Professor in Public Law and Child Law at Stockholm University and Senior Lecturer Aoife Daly of the University of Liverpool, for their project on age discrimination against children.
The purpose of the project, entitled Treated Like a Child: Children and Age Discrimination Law in Sweden and the UK, is to document children’s experience of discrimination based on their being minors as such. Examples of such discrimination are violence against children for upbringing purposes, restricted scope of influencing political decisions or the fact that children have few opportunities to act independently in legal processes.
Due to run from 2020 to 2022, the project will be located at the Stockholm Centre for the Rights of the Child, Department of Law, Stockholm University.
