2019 Independent Pedagogical Award bestowed on Katia Cejie

Katia Cejie, Associate Professor in Fiscal Law at the Department of Law, was honoured with the Independent Pedagogical Award for her ability to create a positive learning climate and make all students feel seen.
Award rationale:
Associate Professor Katia Cejie of the Department of Law has been awarded the 2019 Independent Pedagogical Award with the theme “Educational contributions for gender equality and equal opportunities”.
Katia Cejie is a versatile and committed teacher who cares about each and every student. She structures her courses and plans her instruction with the aim of creating a secure study environment and thereby promote gender equality, equal opportunities and accessibility for all students. Through her involvement in an international master's course, she interacts with students from around the world. She creates a positive learning climate and makes all students feel seen, have the confidence to develop their learning, and have fun.
Uppsala University annually bestows pedagogical awards for outstanding contributions in undergraduate education within special nomination categories.
Four of the awards are bestowed on teachers within the fields:
• Theology, Humanities and Educational Sciences
• Law and Social Sciences
• Medicine and Pharmacy
• Mathematics, Science and Technology
The fifth award is bestowed for pedagogical contributions within a focus area specially selected for the year.
Potential recipients are nominated by students and colleagues, and the final award recipients are named by the Vice-Chancellor based on the proposal of a preparation group consisting of eight teachers and eight students. There were 121 nominees this year.
This year's awards will be presented in connection with the professorial inauguration on 15 November 2019. The award comes with a prize of SEK 20,000.
