The Vice-Chancellor has decided to grant Carl Fredrik Bergström, Professor of European Law, funds to serve as a Matariki Fellow at the University of Otago in New Zealand for the period 2019–2020.

During his time as a Matariki Fellow, Carl Fredrik will work on an ongoing research project that studies how the financial market within the EU has been reformed and functions since the global financial crisis of 2009. He will primarily collaborate with colleagues of the Faculty of Law at the University of Otago who are conducting research on international trade and on data protection.

The Matariki Network of Universities, which was named for the Maori people’s word for the constellation Pleiades, is a network of seven universities from around the world. It was established in 2010 to strengthen diversity and share ideas and experiences gained through research and education. In addition to Uppsala and Otago, the network includes Dartmouth College (USA), Durham University (England), Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (Germany), Queen´s University (Canada) and University of Western Australia (Australia).
