Maarit Jänterä-Jareborg elected a member of Academia Europaea

Maarit Jänterä-Jareborg, Professor of Private International Law and International Civil Procedure, was recently elected a member of Academia Europaea, the pan-European academy of science, humanities and letters.
Academia Europaea was formed in 1988. Its members work to support international research collaboration anywhere in the world. The Academy’s mission is also to act as scholarly advisers to governments and international organisations. The Academy's publications include the “European Review”, a scholarly journal.
Maarit Jänterä-Jareborg holds several elected posts and honours, including her appointment as the chair of the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences (RJ). Professor Jänterä-Jareborg has been chair of the foundation since 1 November 2014 and her appointment was extended last autumn through the end of 2020. RJ is an independent foundation with the goal of promoting and supporting research in the humanities and social sciences.
Professor Jänterä-Jareborg’s main research interests are international family law, with focus on the legal conundrums that arise when individuals move across national borders by, for example, moving abroad with their families or forming a family with a person of another national and cultural background. These issues include cross-border custody battles, disputes on inheritances and divisions of property between spouses/partners when the laws of different countries come to bear, and matters of religious and cultural diversity, especially in relation to immigration to Sweden from non-European countries.
