Eric K. Fernström Swedish Prize awarded to Alkistis Skalkidou

The prize committee for the faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy at Uppsala University has awarded Alkistis Skalkidou, a professor at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, this year’s Eric K. Fernström Swedish Prize.


Alkistis Skalkidou will receive the 2019 Eric K. Fernström Swedish Prize for young, highly promising and successful researchers on 6 November. She has been awarded the prize for her outstanding efforts to increase our understanding of women’s mental health associated with childbirth. Skalkidou has successfully applied a wide range of methods in epidemiology, genetics, epigenetics, proteomics and metabolomics to highlight this important and clinically relevant area.

The Eric K. Fernström Swedish prize is awarded to young, highly promising and successful researchers under age 45 who work at a Swedish medical faculty. The faculties in Umeå, Uppsala, Stockholm, Linköping, Gothenburg and Lund select a winner. The prize amounts to SEK 100,000 and may not be shared. It is awarded at the Research Day in Lund.
