Recommendation on coronavirus – update 24 February 2020
Uppsala University is monitoring the situation and following the information and recommendations issued by the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA). These authorities are continuously updating their information and recommendations.
The MFA currently advises against travelling to the Hubei Province and against all non-necessary travels also to other Chinese main land provinces except for Hongkong and Macao. This advice applies until further notice.
Corona virus has been confirmed in Northern Italy; Lombardia, Veneto, Piemonte and Emilia Romagna. To limit further spreading of the Corona virus the Italian government introduced travel restrictions for 'red zones'. Schools and universities will remain closed. Other certain events are also cancelled in the affected areas. For more information, please see the MFA website.
If you have been planning to travel to affected areas, Uppsala University recommends that you pay close attention to recommendations from the MFA, the Public Health Agency of Sweden, the universities that you plan to visit, and information from the airlines. Several universities have announced that students planning to travel should not do so in the current situation.
Employees and students who have recently been in affected areas should contact their head of department upon return home. The current recommendation is to work or study at home for two weeks after returning home. If you develop influenza-like symptoms and respiratory problems, contact the health advice line (1177) and follow their instructions.
If your work or studies are affected by the above, contact your immediate superior or the programme director at your department so that you can continue with your work or studies as best possible.
Uppsala University is in touch with the students and employees that we know have recently spent time in affected areas for studies, work or to visit their home country. If you have not been contacted, please get in touch with your immediate superior if you are an employee or with the programme director at your department if you are a student.
